Claire House Children's Hospice
We have been working with Burden and Burden since 2015, our lottery has grown significantly over this period with results exceeding targets most weeks. Burden and Burden have an excellent understanding of Claire House, what we do and our future plans.
I believe the close working relationship we have with the Burden and Burden team, from head office down to our canvassers, is what makes our partnership such a success. We get to meet all of the canvassers in person before they go out into the community. We regularly receive such positive feedback from supporters praising the canvassers knowledge, sensitivity and professional attitude. They are great ambassadors for Claire House Children’s Hospice and their impact goes beyond lottery recruitment.
The Hospice Lottery
We have been working with Burden and Burden on door to door member recruitment for the last 12 months. We have found them to be extremely thorough and professional throughout all the stages of recruitment, not only with respect to the canvassing teams but the member acquisition as well. All canvassers are DBS checked and undergo an intensive training process, bespoke to HLP including specific compliance training. We get daily reports on activity and the paperwork is submitted to our office on a weekly basis. From an admin perspective the paperwork is clear and concise and well reported. We receive very few complaints and certainly none of a serious nature. But any that we have had, have been dealt with immediately with a report and any necessary action taken within 24 hours. The quality of sign ups is good with a current attrition rate of 8%, the best of all our face to face activity. On a personal level Michael Burden is conscientious and driven to achieve our targets and I am looking forward to a long association

I have been working with Burden & Burden for just over a year. The Team leader, Sales Manager and Management have ensured that we have a team of professionally trained canvassers throughout the year & the canvassing team have been consistent in recruiting new members to the agreed targets. We are extremely happy with the results. Further to this I have found the office team to be helpful, friendly & accommodating. We started working with Burden and Burden in April 2014 and they are really making a difference to our Weekly Prize Draw membership which is a significant revenue stream for the Hospice. They are a great organisation to work with and we are pleased with their caring and sensitive approach to our supporters from whom we have received excellent feedback. Our reputation is paramount and we trust the team to act as ambassadors and ensure that all prospective members are left with a feel good factor about the hospice, whether they join the Weekly Prize Draw or not.
We were the first Hospice in our area to work with Burden and Burden, they came to us relatively new to the Hospice sector and I have been impressed with how well they understand our ethos. They have been excellent at recruiting canvassers who are passionate about our Hospice, eager to learn about our place in the community and how we interact with our supporters so they can represent us to the best of their abilities. The team is incredibly easy to deal with, driven to meet their targets and have delivered great results for us here. Since starting with us they have gone on to work for several Hospices and it’s testament to their hard work and understanding of the sensitive environment we work in.
We are entirely satisfied with the service provided by Burden & Burden who have been canvassing door-to-door on our behalf for new TLC Lottery subscribers since January 2014. They carefully select their canvassers and feedback from the people they sign up to our lottery is that their canvassers are “well presented, well-spoken and not at all pressurising”. This is reflected in the excellent retention figures we are seeing so far – great value for money and return on our investment in growing our lottery membership base. Burden & Burden take our and their responsibilities under the Gambling Act 2005 very serious with a vigorous induction and on-going on-site training. They report daily on sales and are readily available to discuss matters. We see our relationship with Burden & Burden as a partnership which will continue to grow our lottery income.
North Devon Hospice
We were looking to outsource our canvassing campaign and the Burden and Burden slogan, “Your reputation in safe hands” drew our attention. As a local charity, our reputation is paramount and Burden and Burden understood this.
When training their staff, Burden and Burden put in place many ethical safeguards to protect their staff, us as a client and the customer. The training was geared specifically to our needs so that Burden and Burden staff could represent our hospice with background knowledge and speak confidently about our services and care.
The overall outlook was to have a long-term collaboration. The management team are in regular contact with us. This helps to build relationships, ensures effective communication and allows opportunities to discuss development.
Burden and Burden staff were all friendly and keen to help us reach our targets. We are very pleased with Burden and Burden’s results and our membership is steadily increasing.
